This week we explored the three types of learning theories, behaviorism, cognitive constructivism, and social constructivism. It’s been years since I went over these theories, so this was a very good review for me. It’s really not something I’ve thought about in teaching for many years. I think that after a while finding an activity to reach objectives comes second nature. I see how these learning theories can especially help newer teachers, but like I said this was a very good review for me.
What resonated with me in the reading was that when taking online courses, the facilitator needs to make sure that technology used meshes well together. If they don’t work well together, the learner can get lost. As I read Bridget’s post she said that, “What is most important is how you use those tools to achieve the teaching goals.” I think that’s so important, not to use a type of technology because it may be “cool” or “neat” or the newest thing out there, but because it’ll facilitate learning.
