Amy mentioned that successful OCL models have both teacher training and a chance for teachers to share ideas, collaborate and assimilate concepts (part of the CoPs framework). I was glad to read that because it sums up our discussion this week about CoPs. I see how it completely makes sense. Dan brought up the importance of uniform curriculum. When I first started teaching I didn’t quite agree with that. I guess I wanted to do my own thing and thought that I knew what I was doing. I see now the importance of the progression knowledge from grade level to grade level and how having that familiarity with a test or program helps the learner.
This week we taught the lesson on OCL, CoPs, and OCoPs. I got a lot out of that assignment, more so than I actually thought I would. Going back to something Dan brought up, “Quality education requires quality preparation.” I was happy with our team leader, Theresa M and the leadership she brought to the table in ensuring we were prepared.
